My Philosophy

Music is something all people can connect with. It affects everyone differently and every chid develops their own unique relationship with music. Unfortunately, not every child

has the educational support and instruction to explore the infinite possibilities their musical abilities can reach.

The best thing that I do as music educator is to help my students explore the opportunities that music has to offer and provide them with the technical expertise required to help them to achieve their goals, whether it be learning their first notes or preparing for college auditions. 

I travel to students for their weekly lesson and bring the proper materials they need for that week. Lessons are offered in 60, 45, and 30 minute sessions. For the intermediate or advanced student, I recommend 60 or 45 minute sessions, and 30 minutes for the beginner student. In the case we cannot meet in person, I do offer Zoom/Skype Lessons as well.

TONE DEVELOPMENT & INTONATION

This is your voice on the flute. I’ll help you find a good centered sound and expand your range on the instrument without feeling strained. 

TECHNIQUE

You'll learn different exercises to develop your tongue and finger coordination. We’ll work on double and triple tonguing, too.

SCALES

Scales are the building blocks of melodies. Every week you’ll perform a major and minor scale for me. Depending on your level, I may assign it to you, or I will choose one at random.

ETUDE/BOOK EXERCISE

For advanced students, typically those with hourly lessons, I’ll assign you a weekly etude (short study piece) that you’ll perform for me. Etudes help you learn music faster and ensure you’re always practicing challenging keys.

REPERTOIRE

These are actual pieces of music that you learn over an extended period of time. I work with you on choosing a piece that helps you achieve your goals. During audition and contest season, we’ll shift our focus so you are as prepared as possible.

DUETS & BAND/ORCHESTRA MUSIC

I will show you a variety of solutions to work through difficult passages for repertoire you are working on in an ensemble setting.
